Organizational Background

 1.0 Organization Background

Kisumu Agricultural Stakeholders Organization is a non-profit, non partisan organization pegged on four pillars that bring together farmers, government line ministries, private sector and donors on one platform to learn, experience, share and grow in sustainable agriculture for socio-economic development, sustainable food security, enterprising ventures. KASO since its inceptions has strong guiding principles for sustainability, based on stewardship and economic justice geared towards well being of all farmers in the division by promoting community development that exercise available resource in a manner conducive to ensuring  effective, and efficient sustainable utilization of resources to alleviate poverty.

1.1 Mission

Mobilize resources to empower the community to positively engage in agribusiness and promote development.  Increase household food security through agricultural innovation and inventions and mitigate the socio-economic impact through cooperation and networking with other stakeholders.

1.2 Vision

A Prosperous, self-reliant and empowered farmers Organization contributing to community development in our society

 

1.3 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  • Contribute to the sustainable development of Agribusiness in the Winam Division region through improved organization, research and marketing.
  • Carry out research on new methods of agricultural practices.
  • Carry out marketing research and provide linkages to farmers.
  • Provide training to build the capacity of farmers on new approaches, technologies, financial management, business skills and accountability.
  • Provide a forum for information sharing and networking.
  • Develop a resource center to provide access to information, communication and education materials for farmers
  • Promote wealth creation by promoting extensive agricultural activities and wealth creation through encouraging self help project within the division.
  • Ensure proper and diverse food security for all farmers within the division.
  • Protect, conserve and promote the management of environment and natural resources for sustainable development.
  • Encourage and promote strong and true collaboration, partnership and participation between the NGOs, CBOs, CIGs, Women group and Youth group in the division.
  • To ensure and secure access to integrated quality farming and modern technology to all communities in the division at all levels.
  • Ensure sound collaborators policy, which addresses farmers’ issues affecting the division and fully integrates agricultural concerns into development agenda and planning.


1.4 Organizations policies and core values

  • Actively support communities in need through a portfolio of development activities that are planned and implemented cooperatively
  • Work through equitable partnerships with those in need to achieve positive and sustainable change in communities
  • Promote and expand the equitable and participatory involvement of women in the development process
  • Advocate for and assist in the increased use of communities’ capacity to care for and responsibly manage the natural resource of their environment.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with our partners, which provide effective channels for mutual growth and action.

  1. This is a nice organization indeed.Apart assisting the farmers, what do you do to help the youths in the community to grow with development oriented minds.
